A possible solution to climate change would be to start rationing the things we consume, either in terms of restricting the number of certain goods we could consume or in giving us a personal carbon allowance which we could exchange for things like flights or electricity. Would you accept this to save the world?

Lets ration over a made up theory good idea!

I wouldn’t be happy about it, let’s put it that way.
Not that I don’t consider climate change to be a serious problem – I do. But I do think there are better solutions available. Solutions which don’t restrict freedoms or impinge on people’s lifestyles.
People have enough things to worry about such as paying the mortgage, bringing up the kids, working etc without having to manage personal carbon allowances. I’m all for less bureaucracy and red-tape but at the moment we seem to be drowning in it.
My preferred solutions would be to…
• Reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible
• Greatly expand the use of alternative fuels including nuclear fission (not fusion)
• Develop technical and scientific schemes to remove surplus emissions

You slay me, really. The rationing is already here. It’s the rationing of the truth. Save the world? Check out a map sometime. Personal carbon allowance?? Man you people will believe anything.
Have you bothered to see how your high priests live their lives?

yes that’s a great idea,nobody should be allowed more than 10 gallons of gas a year,you should have to go 15 days a month without electricity and natural gas,you should be limited to either 1 plane fare or train fare once every 5 years.and we need to ban charcoal and outlaw firewood

From the looks of these answers, I would hate to be between 1 and 25 yrs old. You are screwed. In 20 years it’s not going to be rationing it is going to be killing for. We have a billion people starving today. That is one out of six and populations increasing. Oh ya, your screwed.

If we all get the same amount of stuff, why would anyone bother to produce?
This would cause less and less stuff to be available.
Wealth is created. Your economic policy discourages wealth creation.
Wealth=stuff.

YES YES YES We should impose a world wide ban of Coke – pepsi – 7up and all those type drinks because Co2 in the soft drink industry is destroying the atmosphere
